Course, Phase, and Lesson Option Reference

This page applies options configured in course design. From a user perspective, these options change what you can do:

  • Course-level: signature workflow enabled, close/reopen state, credits availability, additional fields, custom tab visibility
  • Phase-level: lesson grouping/order and progression structure
  • Lesson-level: mandatory flag, repeat allowance, scoring mode, prerequisite lesson, prerequisite exercises, required qualifications/roles, required files, certificate outputs, duration objectives

Recommended use:

  • if blocked, first check prerequisite/mandatory messages and requirement warnings
  • do not force durations to bypass validation; correct the data model of the activity
  • complete signatures immediately after save to avoid downstream blocking

CBTA, OBs, Dynamic Documents, and Exercise Items

When your school configuration uses these features:

  • CBTA context appears through competency/requirement checks and performance follow-up
  • OBs (Observable Behaviours) are represented in graded lesson item behavior and performance analytics context
  • Dynamic Documents appear as generated certificates/doc links after valid completion
  • Exercise Items are central to pass/fail and scoring and must be completed as configured

If a feature is not enabled in your organization, the related panel/button may not appear.

Prerequisites and mandatory conditions

A save can be blocked if:

  • prerequisite lesson not yet passed
  • required prerequisite exercise grade not reached
  • mandatory lesson order is violated
  • required recommending instructor is missing (when configured)
  • mandatory upload files are missing

Exercise items and additional exercises

Use the lesson items area to:

  • grade expected items
  • add additional exercise items when needed
  • ensure all required items are graded before saving

Duration entry rules and limits

Key rules enforced by the system:

  • every leg needs valid time values when flight duration applies
  • airport legs must be consistent (departure/arrival list must match)
  • no invalid number formats
  • no empty required durations

Critical duration limits:

  • Cross-country + Instrument <= Total flight duration
  • FTD time cannot be combined with flight time in the same leg
  • Single-engine and Multi-engine flight times cannot be mixed in the same leg
  • Dual and PIC/Co-pilot time categories cannot be mixed incorrectly in the same leg
  • Cross-country Day cannot exceed Day flight duration
  • Cross-country Night cannot exceed Night flight duration

Save blockers you may see

Typical blockers:

  • invalid/missing date
  • missing resource
  • missing PIC/participant data
  • missing score or incomplete grading
  • missing signature sequence requirements
  • duplicate/invalid repeated entry conditions

Common Questions

Why can’t I save a lesson?

Usually because prerequisites, durations, required grading, required files, or required signatures are not satisfied.

Why is “Modify” disabled?

The lesson/course may be closed, or your role does not have editing rights for that action.

Why do I see “to sign” statuses?

At least one required signer (PIC/Student/Supervisor) is still missing.

Why is projected date read-only?

Read-only state appears when lesson is already done or your role does not allow planning changes.
