This is the most important rule in the task system.
- Status describes the stage of the work.
- Closed controls whether the task is still active and whether it appears in the default Open list.
Setting Status to Completed does not close the task. A Completed task can remain visible as Open until someone explicitly sets Closed to Closed.
Status reference
| Status | Recommended use |
|---|---|
| Not Started | The work is known but has not begun. This is the default for a new task. |
| In progress | Someone is actively working on it. |
| Completed | The work itself is finished and may be ready to close. |
| Waiting someone | Progress depends on a response, approval, document, or action from another person. |
| Deferred | The work has intentionally been postponed. Review its dates and explanation. |
| Review | The result needs verification before final closure. |
| Error | A problem prevents normal completion and needs attention. |
A reliable completion method is:
- Set the Status to Completed when the work is done.
- Confirm that the description, assignment, and dates are correct.
- Set Closed to Closed when no further active follow-up is needed.
Closed tasks remain in the history of the area. Select All or Closed in the Closed filter to find them later.
