This chapter gives the recommended order for building a new course. Each step links to the chapter that explains the screen in detail. Follow it the first time you create a course; experienced designers can use it as a checklist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why this order matters:<\/strong> prerequisites, credited lessons and certificates point to lessons, so lessons must exist first. Publication comes last, because a course becomes difficult to change once students are assigned to it.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Before you start<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Prepare the approved syllabus: the list of phases, the lessons of each phase, their objectives and standards, the planned durations, the exercises to grade and the conditions to pass. Agree on who will maintain the course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 1 \u2014 Create the course<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

  1. In the Courses<\/strong> panel, type the course title in the empty field and click the green +<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n
  2. The course is created unpublished<\/strong> and modifiable<\/strong>, and you are automatically listed as a member who can modify it.<\/li>\n\n\n
  3. Select the course to open Design Course<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Step 2 \u2014 Describe the course<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    In Design Course \u203a Content<\/strong>, fill in Description<\/strong>, Standard<\/strong>, Objective<\/strong>, References<\/strong> and Notes<\/strong>, and set a Print title<\/strong> if printed documents need a formal name. Add Additional fields<\/strong> only for information your organization really uses. Click Save<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Step 3 \u2014 Set who can work on and use the course<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    In Publication and access<\/strong>, list the Members that can modify this course<\/strong> (course editors), choose the Minimum member’s level to attach this course<\/strong>, the Credentials set when the course is attached<\/strong> and, if needed, the Roles that have access to this course<\/strong>. Leave The course is published<\/strong> switched off for now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In Members<\/strong>, choose who is alerted when a planned date is overdue, who can hide or display phases, who can correct lessons and who can modify scores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Step 4 \u2014 Set the general lesson rules<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    In Lesson rules<\/strong>, decide whether lessons need electronic signatures, a mandatory duration, grade or resource, whether multiple entries are allowed, and how the activity sheet is fed. These rules apply to every lesson of the course. Click Save<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Step 5 \u2014 Add the phases<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    In the Phases<\/strong> panel, type each phase title and click +<\/strong>. Drag the phases into the right order. Select a phase to complete its Standard<\/strong>, Objective<\/strong>, References<\/strong> and Notes<\/strong> in Design phases<\/strong>, and check its Published<\/strong> switch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Step 6 \u2014 Add the lessons of each phase<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Select a phase, open Design a lesson<\/strong>, type each lesson title in the field under the search box and click +<\/strong>. Drag lessons into the right order. Use Duplicate<\/strong> in the lesson right-click menu to create similar lessons quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Step 7 \u2014 Configure each lesson<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    For each lesson, work through the sub-tabs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Header<\/strong>: choose the Activity<\/strong> and a Short description<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n
    2. Content<\/strong>: objective, standard, references, notes, instructor guide, default comment and public files.<\/li>\n\n\n
    3. Session setup<\/strong>: required resources, co-pilot, instructor recommendation, Duration objective<\/strong>, Flight Record and scheduler options, accounting.<\/li>\n\n\n
    4. Items<\/strong>: add the exercise items to grade and choose their grading.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      Click Save<\/strong> after each lesson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Step 8 \u2014 Add the rules that link lessons together<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      Once all lessons exist, go back to the lessons that need them and set:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
