{"id":4750,"date":"2026-10-09T19:52:03","date_gmt":"2026-10-09T23:52:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.airsupervision.com\/wp-r\/docs\/general-knowledge\/course-training-records\/recording-a-lesson\/"},"modified":"2026-10-09T19:52:03","modified_gmt":"2026-10-09T23:52:03","slug":"recording-a-lesson","status":"publish","type":"docs","link":"https:\/\/www.airsupervision.com\/wp-r\/docs\/general-knowledge\/course-training-records\/recording-a-lesson\/","title":{"rendered":"Recording a lesson"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This article explains how a lesson is recorded in a training record: by the <strong>instructor \/ PIC<\/strong> after a dual lesson, or by the <strong>student<\/strong> when the school allows students to record some activities themselves (typically a solo flight, where the student is the PIC).<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"ub-styled-box ub-notification-box\" id=\"ub-styled-box-fa89a266-10dc-4680-85b1-91aa5bd12060\">\n\n\n<p><strong>Before you start:<\/strong> the course must be open, the previous lessons that require signatures must be signed, and the prerequisite lessons must be passed. Otherwise the system refuses the save (see the messages table below).<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Step 1 \u2014 Open the lesson<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Go to the <strong>Lessons<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Click the lesson to record (use the <strong>To do<\/strong> filter to find it quickly).\n<ul>\n<li>To record a <strong>repetition<\/strong> of a lesson already done, click the <strong>document with a green +<\/strong> icon next to it. Today&#8217;s date is proposed.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>PIC<\/strong><\/td><td>For dual lessons, the PIC is normally you, the instructor, and is filled in automatically. Members allowed to record on behalf of another instructor type the actual PIC&#8217;s name and pick it from the search results.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Aircraft<\/strong> \/ <strong>Ressource<\/strong><\/td><td>Choose the aircraft or simulator. The list only shows aircraft of the categories allowed by the lesson.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Copi<\/strong> (crew lessons)<\/td><td>Type the name of the other student and pick it from the list.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Recommending Instructor<\/strong> (when shown)<\/td><td>Type and select the instructor who recommends the student.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n<div class=\"ub-styled-box ub-notification-box\" id=\"ub-styled-box-e36a0041-decf-4a31-bf4b-2512fe3ae59b\">\n\n\n<p><strong>As a student recording your own solo flight:<\/strong> you are the PIC. Choose the aircraft you flew and continue.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Check the <strong>requirements warnings<\/strong> box. A red <strong>Missing<\/strong> or <strong>Expired<\/strong> entry (for example an expired medical or <em>No previous flight on type<\/em>) usually blocks the flight or the save.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Step 3 \u2014 Grade the items<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For each item, click the button of the grade obtained. The row takes the colour of the grade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Click the letter or number at the left end of a scale to clear the grade of that item.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Grey buttons show the minimum grade expected.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>When the course requires it, <strong>all items must be graded<\/strong> before saving.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>To add an exercise that is not part of the lesson, use the <strong>Additional items<\/strong> bar:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Choose the <strong>group<\/strong> of exercises.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Choose the <strong>item<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Choose the <strong>type<\/strong> of evaluation and the <strong>grading scale<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Click the green <strong>+<\/strong>. The item is added and can be graded.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Step 4 \u2014 Lesson passed or Score<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Select <strong>Lesson passed: Yes<\/strong> or <strong>No<\/strong>. For scored lessons, type the <strong>Score<\/strong> and the maximum (for example 76 \/ 100). Red cells in the <strong>Obj<\/strong> row are columns you must fill in. Enter <strong>0<\/strong> if no time was done in that column.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Fill in the <strong>Arrival<\/strong> airport.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>For a flight with several full-stop landings at different airports, click <strong>Add a leg<\/strong> (green <strong>+<\/strong>) once per additional leg. Use the red <strong>x<\/strong> to remove a leg.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n<div class=\"ub-styled-box ub-notification-box\" id=\"ub-styled-box-3e3d5cda-db95-4726-bcfa-b2f644947d55\">\n\n\n<p><strong>&#8220;Add as many leg as the number of full stops you have done.&#8221;<\/strong> Each leg has its own durations and airports.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Times can be typed in decimal hours (1.4) or hours:minutes, depending on your school&#8217;s setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>When the durations come from the Flight Records<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When the lesson is linked to the Flight Records, the main flight time cells are <strong>grey<\/strong>. You cannot type in them; they are filled from the flight recorded at ramp-in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Make sure the <strong>Date<\/strong>, the <strong>PIC<\/strong> and, if possible, the <strong>Aircraft<\/strong> are correct.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Click a grey cell of the leg.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>The <strong>Flight Record: date<\/strong> window lists every activity the PIC completed (ramped in) that day that is not yet used by another lesson. For dual lessons, only the flights with this student are listed. Select them again.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>If no flight is listed, the flight is not ramped in yet, was recorded with another PIC, student, date or aircraft category, or is already linked to another lesson. Ask dispatch to check the Flight Records.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Step 6 \u2014 Comment, files and signatures<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Type the <strong>Comment<\/strong>: what was done, strengths, points to improve, next lesson.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>If <strong>Files to upload before saving<\/strong> is shown, click each tile and choose the file to upload. The window lists the fields.<\/td><td><strong>Close<\/strong>, then enter a number (0 if no time).<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Passed or not passed<\/strong><\/td><td>You set the lesson as <strong>NOT PASSED<\/strong>.<\/td><td><strong>Continue<\/strong> to save as not passed, or <strong>Cancel<\/strong> to correct.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Add activity sheet<\/strong><\/td><td>Your school links lessons to the instructors&#8217; activity sheets. The window proposes to add the lesson time to the PIC&#8217;s activity sheet, with two optional extra lines (for example briefing time).
